The United States Veterans Club of New Zealand has laid wreaths at the Auckland War Memorial Museum every year since 1948. John Drucker, Past President of The American Club, and retired US Naval Commander, will be laying a wreath.

All are welcome to attend the ceremony at the Museum. You don’t have to have a link to the U.S. military.  But in particular, if there are veterans of U.S. military service in the region, the Veterans’ Club President Mike Riley would like them to come along – and to join the club, to help ensure this important link between the U.S. and New Zealand continues to be commemorated.

Memorial Day has been officially observed since May 1868, when the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery were decked with flowers. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a U.S. national holiday by an act of US Congress.
